Baukultur
The initiative Stadtbaukultur NRW is set up for a period of ten years to bring a new consciousness for the build environment into the public discussion. Mainly the initiative is working project related and for the past year one of my jobs was to document the different approaches with short films.
SEHEN LERNEN:
One of the main projects of the initiative for the next years will be a project called ‘Sehen lernen’, what could be translated as ‘Learning to see’. The campaign faces the main theme: to bring a new sense for the build enviroment in the cityscapes of North Rhein Westfalen to the public. The project is segmented into three parts, a poster campaign, a internet platform with information material, pictures and so on and, as the heart of it, a architectural wodden building, looking like a old bellowcamera. This so called ‘Sehstation’ should bring a new sense for the surrounding by changing the view in two ways. The first one is experienced while walking up the stairs to the small window at the end, the second view is the open, but still focused one when you walk out again.
The short is showing the buildup of the ‘Sehstation’.
TEMPORÄRE STADT AN BESONDEREN ORTEN:
The project ‘Temporäre Stadt an besonderen Orten’ (temporary city at special places) is a student competition, last year facing problems with the accessibility of the museum in Möchengladbach. The museum is based behind the houses of the main road. The consequence of this is that it is not really noticed and has kind of a backyard-feel. The concept of the winning group of students was to build a bridge between the main road and the museum, over the houses, 16,5 meters high and 50 meters long to set up something big to catch the attention. On this bridge you could walk over the houses with nice views over the city. The bridge ‘StAIRways’ was buildup for one month and was a big success.
The short gives a little behind the scenes from the buildup to the opening.
BAUKULTURSALON:
With the Ruhrarea becoming culture capital in 2010 with a huge amount of projects in this year happening, the actors behind it wanted to learn from the culture capitals of the last years, so the idea of the ‘Baukultursalon’ was born. Mostly every month another city is guest in the Stadtbauraum to talk about their experience to bring a conglomerate of ideas to the Ruhrarea, things to learn from.
The short is a overview from the last ‘Baukultursalons’.
