Two days ago John Bachar passed away by a free soloing accident. John was on of the big figures in the early ages of sportclimbing, being beside Ron Kauk the unbeatable master of the Yosmite climbing scene. Establishing things like the famous Midnight Lightning. There was always the little story about John, waiting in the woods for people coming by and looking at this at the time superhard problem and then just coming out and climb it easily to leave some stunning eyes. All that as if it was just by accident. Later John focused more and more on climbing free solo with unbelievable achievments there. Like the famous free solo days in Joshua Tree where he set a prize money of 10.000 $ for anyone who could follow him for a day. No one ever tried to…
John was one of the most famous figures in climbings short history and personally, even when i started climbing way after his high time, i was especially at the beginning of my climbing career inspired by all those wild stories of this guys from this era. They where the figures that embodied the adventures i was looking for, and John was maybe the wildest…
