norway with some icelandic music

I’m packing my stuff right now for a short roadtrip up to Norway. I’m really looking forward to that after three pretty stressful weeks and quite the same in front of me after the trip. So this will be the perfect time to calm down and relax somewhere out in the wild. Just the nature and our tent in the middle of it. Sounds like a good plan to me.

I’ve spent some time in Scandinavian countries and it was always an intense and beautiful experience. I love the roughness of the landscape and the silence, when there is nothing else than the wind and the grass slowly moving. Last year, while hiking in the Himalayas i had kind of the same feeling. Maybe this is also the reason why the music that i was listening to there was music from scandinavian countries, mainly Olafur Arnalds, who is just and without any doubt amazing (here’s a short flic from a recent concert in Copenhagen). 3055 is one of his greatest songs. Just give yourself a silent moment and listen to it.

But there are so many great artists from Scandinavia, especially from Iceland, like Sigur Ros. This is a part from their film Heima, what means home, a film about their tour through Iceland. I highly recommend to watch the whole film, this is just a glimpse of it’s beauty.

The interesting thing about the music from Iceland is it’s diversity. It always had this nimbus of being highly melancholic or totally arty. But you also find so many other kinds, even when it might be not totally wrong that there is a melancholic feel most of the time. But maybe it’s just me who likes that the most… ;-) This one is also a young band from Iceland, but i also like the flic. I just hope that my trip will bring some kind of feelings like this up. Enjoy!
