faroer islands

FaroerThe Faroer Islands might be one of the wildest places left in Europe. In the middle of the Atlantic ocean between Iceland, Norway and England with rough weather and a landscape that is forced to resist the power of the ocean over hundreds of years. The wind is blowing hard and nearly every day it rains for some hours. In the winter the days are short, even when it’s not getting too cold up here. There are not many trees left that could give a little bit of shelter and the houses are at some of the most exposed places imaginable.  The only way to get there is by boat over two shacky days in the very rough ocean or by a small plane, which is going only every couple of days, maybe equally shacky. Nothing really what sounds like a dream destination to travel to, especially when you add the high costs for everything, thanks to it’s location far away from everything.

When i would have been asked a couple of years ago where the hack on this planet the Faroer islands are, i would have had no answer. Luckily i had the chance some time ago to travel to this islands and after two days on the boat (you remeber: shacky!!!) i reached this wonderful place. Wild, native and full of this magic you can feel only in the north. Ok, it rained from the start- and also rained in all those situations where you don’t really need rain for your happieness, like on a four hour walk with no shortcut and no shelter. But the scenery is just stunning, believe me. It might be in the coulds from time to time, but it’s nothing less than stunning. Wide fjords, green hills, high cliffs and the endless ocean nearly everywhere surrounding you. So from now, when you hear about the Faroer islands, consider going there. It’s worth it!

The pro surfers from team O’neil also made this trip, leaving beside all obstacles and finding some waves and the described beauty on their trip. So take some time and enjoy this film.
