Searching for inspiration? The 1000 Journals project

With creativity and inspiration it is always a difficult thing. I mainly do documentary work, so i try to get as much inspiration as possible out of the stories i cover and channel that into my creativity. But inspiration starts earlier. It could be about a certain look, it could be about a special technique or it could be about how you look at things. Especially the last one is of major importance for me and my work. I like to get new perspectives and new approaches. It helps me a lot in thinking about the stories, my work and how i bring this two together. And a lot of this inspiration is not coming from other photographers or videographers, but from people that inspire me with what they do and how they look at the world. Quite often that are the people i do stories about, but of course it could be anyone. That is why i like this project i want to direct you to today so much.

On monday i was writing about the power of personal projects and how they can help you in many ways to empower your creativity, personal style and in how you approach your stories. So this was a lot about doing yourself something to develop something. But what about sharing an idea and let other people develop it with their creativity. We all know that creativity has also a lot to do with inspiration. And inspiration is another important aspect that makes us learn and develop ideas (not talking about copying, but bringing your personal spin to ideas or stories). That is why i love this project i share here today. The idea is simple, take an empty journal, write a text how it works and then spread it over and see what people do with it. Do this not with one, but with 1000 journals. What comes out at the end is a broad conglomerate of creative ideas and thoughts. You can check the journals that came back at the end on the project website. Every page is pictured there. Or if you like you can also watch the trailer below (or on the website) for the documentary film Andrea Kreuzhage did about the project. At the end inspiration is something we all can find, when we look in the right direction and think outside the box. Even when it has nothing to do with what you normally do.
