starved for attention

‘Starved for attention’ is a new multimedia project by MSF (Doctors without borders) and the photoagency VII. It is covering the topic of children malnutrition in seven multimedia essays by the accomplished photojournalists of VII. 195 million children suffer of malnutrition worldwide, not only in areas of conflict, but also in other regions of the world where you might not think it. We all know the pictures of the starving childs with skinny arms and big bubbly stomachs. But there is another story to be told, a not so obvious story, a story about what is behind it, also a story about the malnutrition that is not seen directly in a graphic way. The project aims to find a new visual language for malnutrition. Nothing else than rewriting the story of malnutrition is what the claim as the target of the project. After seeing the first story (what you can see below) of Marcus Bleasdale, I’m not sure about that. Too much reminds me of what i have seen before in stories like that. But it’s only the first story. The other multimedia essays will go online in the next weeks. So maybe we could say more after that, if they managed to find a new visual language to tell the story of childrens malnutrition. Anyhow is it an important topic to get informed about. And it is good to see that organizations like MSF are thinking of a lot about how to present those stories. The project is for sure worth a look and you will find more insights on the website or the blog.
