Sea Pool
Some time ago I was walking along the beach in Sydney and crossed exactly this sea pools you could see in the video below. These are pretty cool places, a combined swimming pool & sea pool. A pretty unique place, beautiful and wild at the same time. When I was there I did neither had the time to go for a swim there nor take some decent shots, even when I was located just around the corner of the Bondi Icebergs swimming club. Maybe it was also because I found it just on my last day in Sydney… The more I was happy when I saw this short film, what is part of a series of films from a documentary that Jason Wingrove did about the sea pool culture. You can find more shortfilms, all covering one pool around Sydney, on his Vimeo account. This whole pool culture is interesting and a nice story to be told. Sometimes the best stories are just around the corner and you can find so much beauty in something what might be normal for you in first perspective. Funny enough my girlfriend told me after I saw the film that we have something quite similar to this here in Copenhagen too. I’ll go and check it out in the next days…
In addition to a nice story the pictures Jason captured are just beautiful and in my opinion transmit the spirit of this places quite well. It is another wonderful example what is possible with the new possibilities of Video DSLRs and how it allows us a massive freedom in expressing our vision for a story, especially aesthetically.
