One of the main goals of my work is to bring also the normal parts of life into my stories. And my experience was that every situation has this normal parts, no matter if you are in Europe or in the DR Congo (where i got one of the best cakes of my life for [...]

Climate Change is affecting the developing countries at first and the hardest. Weak social infrastructure, population growth, weak possibilities to adapt - there are many reasons behind it. In Kenya there are three main areas that are hit the hardest by the effects of Climate Change. For many the changing living conditions lead into a migration into the big cities. Climate Change is not only a enviromental problem, it is not least a social problem that is the tipping point for the loss of the livelihood for many.

Clotide lives in Tumba, Rwanda with her three children and an adopted boy. After 18 years in prostitution she stopped and is now working five days a week in a brig factory.
This is her story.

Today i wanna give you a short introduction on how to do a photoessay, based on my experiences, so as always there might be better or more compelling ways. So feel free to add those in the comments. The photoessay is also, when it comes to multimedia productions, the body of it as it tries to [...]

Today i wanna direct you to a couple of important projects that catched my attention in the last days, covering different issues, some big in the media as the Haiti story, others often forgotten or never really told before. I’m always affected by two major things. The one is the quality of the visual side, [...]

Before i went to Paris for the meet-up with Jean-Marie Theodat a week ago, i spent some days in the climbing mecca of Fontainebleau, just an hour south of Paris. It is THE place in the world when you want to go for high-class bouldering. We had a bit to struggle with the snow the [...]

I went to Paris for a meeting with Jean-Marie Theodat on Monday after a short weekend in the snow with some climbing in Fontainebleau (I’ll post some pictures later.). Jean-Marie is a professor in geography and came to France 30 years ago from Haiti. He is one of the few who actually did profund research [...]

I’m in the mecca of bouldering, Fontainebleau, France, these days, so i thought it is time for some of my climbing films here. As some of you might know, i have a history as a rockclimber. That was also the time when i got started with video. It was a great way to create memories [...]

Human Rights Watch is since some time now pushing use of multmedia to tell important stories. Just recently i wrote here about one of their stories about Gays and Lesbians in Burundi. Now they teamed up with photographer Stephen Ferry to bring up a new multmedia story about the civil war in Columbia and death [...]

Shortly after the earthquake in Haiti some photojournalism workshops were announced to be held in Haiti. The reactions on lightstalkers, duckrabbit and so on were, let’s say, harsh. One of the difficulties of discussions like that is that it pretty fast gets personal and in my opinion is in many ways missing the point and [...]

Climate Change, maybe one of the most important topics in human history right now. One of the first real global stories which could only be solved with a global perspective and global acting. As Copenhagen in the opinion of many failed, many are frustrated and even more think they could not change anything, when political [...]

Once again, it is a busy time with a lot of work. But i’m happy to see that my multmedia stories from Rwanda got attention through some websites in the last time without even really doing something for that. Multimedia is getting more and more important right now and i’m pretty excited how devices like [...]

“This is not a slideshow, we want to do something more,” says photographer Alex Majoli.
The grandmaster’s of photojournalism did not hold back on using the new possibilities of flash and multimedia to get their stories told. First they started their multimedia department Magnum in Motion (read some behind the scenes information here), now they have [...]

Two weeks ago the earthquake hit Haiti and destroyed more or less a whole country in seconds. What we saw in the direct aftermath was a media coverage close to painful in many ways. Now, not even two weeks after the earthquake, the topic does not even make the headlines of most newspapers anymore, the [...]

We asked one question at a time, three in total, to find out more about the hopes, dreams and thoughts of the Rwandans. The questions were: What makes you happy?, What would you like to happen at the end of the day? and Where would you like to wake up tomorrow morning? These are their answers...

As there are no words for the nightmare that hit Haiti two days ago, a country which was even before the earthquake lacking proper medical care and is the poorest country in the western hemisphere. I only wanna show you this short piece by Oxfam and encourage you to donate to one of the following [...]

I’m living recently in the small town Stege, south of Copenhagen on the little island of Moen. Even when the main objective for being here is working (and even not really creative related), it is just a great place to spend time at. The sea is only a couple of minutes away from our house, [...]

Another year is slowly coming to an end and itis time to thank all the people who spent time with me during this fantastic year, shared their stories and were openminded to my sometimes wired ideas. Especially all the people that shared their sometimes heartbreaking stories are in my mind today and i hope they [...]

When there was one person who’s work influenced me in what i do, than it was James Nachtwey. It started after my trip to Northern India that i stumbled across the film ‚Warphotographer’ that was covering Nachtwey and his work . The film irritated me to an extend that left me confused for some days [...]

I don’t wanna write too much about Olafur Arnalds. As you might know, i’m a big fan of Icelandic music (i wrote on that a couple of times before) and Olafur is one of it’s greatest exports, giving us a beautiful mixture of classical music mixed with modern elements. I saw him two times in [...]

A great example for the use of multimedia & flash to tell a story by Anna Kari & Guilhem Alandry. The mix of panoramic pictures supported with atmo sounds plus short films with personal stories is quite nice and gives a strong feeling for the place. And seeing that NGO’s like in this case Save [...]

Tomorrow the climate change conference in Copenhagen starts and with it the full caravan of politics, NGO’s and other ambassadors are coming to town. The hopes for the conference dropped in the last months quite a lot and the moment Obama said he will not come was a total downturn. Even when he is now [...]
